So I got to thinking today, The Joker of Batman fame has been around a very long time. In the times since his inception, he's been depicted as being killed quite a lot. Usually it's for dramatic tension or to end a story. Cause he's kind of a dick. I'll post the scene and some context.
1. Batman the Movie (1989) Falls to his death
Killed by Batman in the NES game based on the movie
Batman: The Animated Series/ Batman Beyond
First Death: Killed in the Modern Day. Skeleton is later shown in Batman Beyond
Tim Drake kills Batman with his "Bang Flag"
Batman Beyond destroys the Joker's "essence" which possessed Tim Drake.
3. Arkham City *Spoilers*
4.Batman: Bloodstorm
5. Countdown to Final Crisis #29
6. Detective Comics 64
7. Detective Comics Annual 7
8. Superman/Batman Generations II
9. Gotham By Gaslight
10. JLA: The Nail
11. Justice Society of America Annual 1
12. Joker's Last Laugh 6
13. Legends of the Dark Knight 145
14. Robin 1000000
15. The Dark Knight Returns
16. The Dark Knight Strikes Again
17. Kingdom Come
18. Thrillkiller

The same way Superman and Goku come back!
Anyways, the Joker dying is sometimes needed. I mean if Batman (or the Dark Knight) catches him and brings him to justice, it would be too cliche for the series. Like we would be expecting it. Though him dying, ironically, ends in the same way...

Well, the Joker has been arrested multiple times, but he's very elusive as well as Arkham and Gotham in general being highly corrupt allowing for escape. Most of these stories are not canon. They exist in their own parallel Earth. Don't get me started on how many incarnations of Batman there are.
