Synopsis: "When Twilight casts a spell that switches the Cutie Marks and destinies, the only way to reverse the spell is by writing her own magic."

You know this is going to be an awesome ending to the season!

and THIS must be what Princess Celestia and Luna were talking about when Luna pulled out the book! Twilight's "next level" must be to create her own magical spell for the spell books!

Think about it: Twilight has never used a spell of her own making. They were all things like:

Gimmes- Really, the only one for this is Telekinesis.

Published Book Spells- Want It Need It, Force Fields, Teleportation

Through somepony else (who probably learned it from another Unicorn/Alicorn down the line)- Rarity's Gem Finding Spell, King Sombra's Dark Magic.

This next level theory is a pretty solid prediction on what Twilight's next test is!

Like my theory said, she probably did it when trying to create her own patented magical spell. Of course she probably didn't do it on purpose. It was probably a fluke or mistake she did in the process.

then there was the other title to the episode "princess coronation" so what could this mean if they are linked in some way?

Welp I finished watching the episode a couple of minutes ago, and well... I think this image will sum up my feelings fairly well:

Some nice moments, felt rushed, the songs killed the pacing entirely. The plot was nearly entirely phoned in.

Oh, I understand how Hasbro doesn't have the ability to cater to a fandoms needs. But I also know what quality is. Just because an entity is a cartoon, doesn't mean that it's free from being judged. I judge things. It's what I do. As a kid, I grew up with some fantastic cartoons. I like My Little Pony, but I know a sinking ship when I see one. Ever hear of a movie called Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen? I wouldn't call that "artistic expression" I'd call that a poorly made pile of vomit in cinematic form. I've been studying the world of cartoons my whole life, and I've seen some impressive displays of story telling and depth. That episode is far from the worst thing I ever saw, but in comparison to other episodes of the series, it didn't feel up to snuff. Nor did a lot of this season. I understand Hasbro needs to sell their toys. They are a toy company. I also know how selling toys can be done tastefully. I've been discussing the very topic on the internet over the past 16 years of my life. Revenge of the Fallen? Pile of crap. You can't defend it at all. This season of My Little Pony? Far from perfect. I didn't think it was the worst thing I saw in my life, but I think it could have been done better. They could have had a whole amazing affair like the episode Code of Hero from Beast Wars. I know they're different shows, but I also know that this show is capable of so much more. That's all. I'm not done with the fandom. Heck, if there are some Rarity episodes, I'd probably check them out, but, I do hope the quality of the episodes increase. Because I respect the show, I will criticize it. I can and will criticize. I love Transformers. You're not going to see me defend the crap released from 2002 to 2009. I'm a fan. Not blind. And I will not defend something which could have been better because I believe in trying to fulfill the potential of an intellectual property. Now that being said, I respect your opinion, so don't bitch and moan about mine. I understand where you're coming from, so please try to understand me. Friendship is magic after all and we're all equals here.

Yep. Don't see her merit on being a princess. Definitely New-Toy BS, Though Cadence, Celestia, Luna lineup was cool. Yeah, I still don't agree with it. Super phoned in. And fuck yeah you were lucky Twilight. Everyone had those adventures you did. I was right.

Of course, you could simply use the episode as a metaphor for the season I suppose.

Season 1 and 2. Rarity (Lauren Faust) is in the dress shop (Involved/Supervising). Awesome

Season 3. Something happened. Now Applejack is in the dress shop. Hrrmmm.

We just gotta wait for the movie/season 4 and see what kinda dresses (episodes) come out of it.

The season finale was okay, but totally rushed! They could have made this a two-part episode and prevented a rushed storyline.

But they used the word "alicorn!" Wasn't that a brony term we created?!

while it was rushed and the story needed longer to tell i enjoyed it.
the songs were absolutely brilliant and Twilight looked badass.
not a great episode but in general it opens many more opportunities

A problem I had at the end specifically was Twilight's friends bowing to her. KNEEL BEFORE ZOD.

I didn't see a problem with that at all. Twilight has officially become a princess. It's a custom when in front of royalty that you greet them traditionally.

I wonder if that wil be a running gag in season 4 though...

Honestly I didn't like the episode, it felt to rushed and I only like one of the songs.
song 1- 5/10
song 2- 0/10 Hated it sounded like an opening to a bad pop song.
song 3 (A true true friend) - 8/10 Awesome.
song 4- Celestia's song - 4/10
song 5- 4/10 just bothered me a lot.
Total episode felt like a B grade Disney movie not a grade A cartoon. (Not dissing Disney I acutely like them a lot, just their bad a sequels.) 5/10

Redeeming factors
A true true friend is now my second favorite song from the series
A few good comedy notes.
Still a lot of attention to detail. If you pay attention you can see Applejack cry when she fails horrifically making a dress.
and finally pinky pie taling in a southern accent while angry at a watershot. Nuf said. XD

After watching this video, I agree with EVERYTHING that this episode had to offer.

And I also hate musicals and this musical-like episode was great.

i dont know why but i feel like adding a few points, in greater detail.
song number 1: a very positive song and it makes me smile when i listen to it.
that to me makes a good song.
song number 2: it does its job, tells the basic problem but that could be considered a problem as it only tells the basic problem and doesn't go into much detail but what detail could it have gone into anyway?
a good song by the way.
song number 3: ALL OF MY FEELS! seriously this song grabs the scene and displays it perfectly, showing that everybody is feeling the effects of what twilight done.
song 4: i like this song, very upbeat BUT here is one of the problems with this episode this song and the second make it so that the episode doesn't get explained too much but ill talk about that later.
song 5: i love this song and its visuals, it does its job well also Celestia is a great singer.
song 6: it reminded me of one of those songs they sing in church around christmas but i suppose it was appropriate
song 7: basically number 1 but i suppose its where well come back to in season 4.

now the main problem i find is that half way through they change the plot entirely. it's as if they took a plot for a normal episode and worked it in as an excuse to give twilight royalty, honestly if they made song 2 and 5 flesh out a bit more and started from hen she gets the package then it could be a single episode.

Huh. I'm honestly surprised with how well they were able to pull off such a drastic change in character. The whole time leading up to the episode I was worried that this would be a huge negative blow for the fandom, but I was gladly proved wrong. It certainly was not the greatest episode of the season, but it was in no way a bad one. The main issue that I had with it was that there were like, 6 different songs! it felt more like mlp fim the musical. it really threw off the pacing and feel for the show. I still have not come to accept her change (I will probably always think of her as a unicorn) but I am pleasantly surprised, and cannot wait for season 4!

*also, since this is only the first episode of a potential 3 parter, I am even more anxious for the next season*

I'm realy not sure why I don't like this episode. The passing was really fast in it and I would rather it be slower. I didn't like the songs (Except a true true friend), but perhaps I was a bit hard on it in reality it was a good episode, just not one I PERSONALLY liked a lot.

Okay I was REALY hard on this episode. I like it (only after watching it 3 times) Most of the songs are good (Except the slow sad one, like I said it sounds like a bad pop song, and I hat pop. New review 8/10 extraordinary.

I'm sorry, but something about the episode was originally.... unsettling, perhaps it was because the first time a watched it my non-brony friend was in the room.

I dunno. I gave the episode another shot, and I still have the same quarrels that I've had originally. It got to the point too damn quickly. There's nothing particularly wrong with that, I just don't like it myself.

You know I had doubts but I was stunned how they were able to pull it all together. The whole season makes sense in retrospect.

Twilight needed to become the a princess because they need four in order to cast the spell.

And how awesome was the design on that monster. It was like something of Lovecraft. They really didn’t pull any punches.

Plus, The origin of the princesses was well explained and Cadence’s back story was so moving. You really get a sense of her character that we’ve have never seen up until this point.

I totally agree this was the way to go and I can’t wait until season 4.
